Chasing Corelli
April 17, 2010 at 8pm
Marsh Chapel of Boston University
Imitation is the highest form of flattery and Arcangelo Corelli had this in spades. Although not reponsible for creating the concerto grosso form, Corelli wrote the first great music for it and popularized it. It soon inspired a generation of composers—Handel, Vivaldi, Locatell and Bach—to create their own masterpieces.
On Saturday April 17th at 8 pm, the L'Académie Baroque Orchestra will perform a fantastic program of the concerto grosso form as fashioned through the hands of Locatelli, Handel, Van Wassenaer and of course, Corelli.
Performers:
Violins - Scott Metcalfe, Marika Holmqvist, Tatiana Daubek, Dan Golleher, Nina Bishop Nunn
Violas - Karina Fox, Jason Fisher
Cellos - Colleen McGary-Smith, Reinmar Seidler
Organ - Leon Schelhase
Harpsichord - Leslie Kwan
Tickets are $25 general admission, $12 students and seniors and can be purchased at the door.
